Transparency International EU (TI EU), the Brussels office of the global anti-corruption movement, is pleased to announce that Ms. Cesira D’Aniello will be joining its Executive Board as of 7 June 2023.
Ms. D’Aniello brings a wealth of experience in the EU institutions and a strong personal commitment to the values of transparency, integrity and accountability.
In 2022 she retired from her post as Secretary-General of the EU Ombudsman. She previously worked at the General Secretariat of the EU Council of Ministers, including three years as Director of Transparency, with responsibility for access to legislative documents.
In accordance with the EU Staff Regulations, Ms. D’Aniello applied for – and was granted – permission by her former employers to take up her Board role with TI EU.
The TI EU Board is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day work of the organisation. Its duties include appointing, supervising and advising the Director, establishing the annual accounts for each financial year and proposing the work plan and budget for the following year.
The Executive Board consists of at least five members, of which at least two are independent of the TI movement. Board members are elected for a term of three years, which is renewable once.
On her appointment, Ms. D’Aniello said: “I am honoured to be offered the opportunity to work with TI EU, which will allow me to continue contributing to the cause of transparency in the EU.”
Michiel van Hulten, Director of TI EU, said: “We are delighted that Cesira, who is a lifelong campaigner for greater transparency, integrity and accountability in the EU institutions, has agreed to accept our invitation to join the TI EU Board. Her experience and expertise will be of great value as we chart our organisational course in the run-up to the 2024 European Parliament elections.”
