Today, the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that the European Commission failed to ensure sufficient public access to Covid-19 vaccine purchase agreements.
Transparency International EU welcomes the decision, but it is nevertheless regrettable that proactive transparency measures had not been put in place by the Commission beforehand.
We hope that the Court’s decision will encourage the Commission to be more proactively transparent in the future.
This decision marks a significant step forward for transparency and ethics in European governance and it emphasises that there is no room for ambiguity when it comes to the lives of European citizens.
Transparency is the cornerstone of trust and accountability in European governance.
