European Parliament calls for EU-wide whistleblower protection

Today, Members of the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly calling for a comprehensive EU-wide whistleblower protection legislation. Transparency International EU welcomes the European Parliament taking a proactive stance on the need to protect those who speak up.

The European Parliament report has clearly acknowledged the vital service whistleblowers provide against fraud and corruption and the need for robust EU-wide protections. Transparency International EU calls on the Commission to come forward with a legislative proposal by the end of 2017.

At present whistleblower protections across Europe vary from country to country and can offer limited promise to potential whistleblowers that they will be protected should they seek to expose corruption, or wrong doing. Transparency International EU are part of 61 organisations calling for EU-wide whistleblower protections. You can find out more at whistleblowerprotection.eu.
