Parliaments are the cornerstone of modern democracies, yet citizens struggle to understand what they do and how they can monitor decisions made on their behalf. Despite considerable advances in open-access data policies, the sheer volume of information and hard-to-navigate interfaces significantly hampers citizens’ access to the work of their elected representatives.
ParliView takes on this challenge by developing an AI-powered transparency tool to help citizens better understand the work of the European Parliament – bridging the gap and improving trust in Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). As AI increasingly becomes the main source of information for voters across the EU, the need for clear, verifiable and impartial information about Parliament’s activities has never been more pressing. We explore how AI can be deployed for good rather than used to erode public trust through opaque systems and manipulative practices.
Through ParliView, researchers and civil society advocates from University College Dublin, University of Strathclyde and Transparency International EU are building the evidence required to establish new standards of democratic transparency in the age of AI.
The questions we’re asking:

- What needs to change to fully realise the potential of AI for a more transparent Parliament?
- As AI reshapes how power operates in the democratic sphere, what would genuinely independent oversight and
- governance look like in practice?
- Are we ready for a future where AI might become the primary interface between citizens and their MEPs?
